PinchukArtCentre Announces 20 Nominees for the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2020

PinchukArtCentre has announced 20 artists nominated for the 6th edition of the PinchukArtCentre Prize, a nationwide prize in contemporary art for young Ukrainian artists up to 35. The shortlist has been formed by the Selection Committee based on the results of the selection from more than 1100 applications submitted by young Ukrainian artist from all regions of Ukraine and foreign countries.

Shortlist of the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2020 includes: AntiGonna (32, Kyiv), Katya Вuchatska (32, Kyiv), Uli Golub (29, Kharkiv/Wroclaw), Pavlo Grazhdanskij (28, Kharkiv), Ksenia Hnylytska (35, Kyiv), Alexandra Kadzevich (26, Odessa), Nikolay Karabinovych (30, Odessa/Ghent), Anton Karyuk (31, Kyiv), Oksana Kazmina (35, Kyiv), Iryna Kudrya (32, Kyiv), Larion Lozovoy (31, Kyiv), Timothy Maxymenko (24, Kyiv), Elias Parvulesco (34, Kyiv), Valentina Petrova (34, Prague/Kyiv), Anna Scherbyna (31, Zaporizhzhia/Kyiv), Alina Sokolova (23, Uzhhorod/Vienna), Dmytro Starusiev(34, Makiivka) and groups: 12345678910 Studio (Obraztsov Evgeniy, 25, Dnepr/Kyiv; Omelich Anastasiya, 23, Dnepr/Kyiv; Momot Mikita, 24, Dnepr), Yarema Malashchuk (26, Kolomiya/Kyiv) andRoman Himey (27, Kolomiya/Kyiv), Daniil Revkovskiy (26, Kharkiv) and Andriy Rachinskiy (29, Kharkiv).

After considering all the applications, the Committee, was guided both by the general practice of an artist and by the works submitted by an artist which, in her/his opinion are representative. The decision was made based on consensus only. The major part of the nominees collaborates with the PinchukArtCentre for the first time.

The Selection Committee members are:

  • Kostiantyn Doroshenko, art critic, curator, historian, publicist;
  • Serhii Kantsedal, manager of the Barriera exhibition space, curator of OGR YOU (Young Adults) CLUB & TALKS, OGR Officine Grandi Riparazioni, Turin, Italy;
  • Tatiana Kochubinska, Curator of the Research Platform at the PinchukArtCentre;
  • Lada Nakonechna, artist, participant of the R.Е.P. group, co-founder of the Method Foundation and co-editor of PROSTORY;
  • Oleh Suslenko, artist, teacher of the department of graphic design of the Lviv National Academy of Arts, curator of the cathedral experimental platform of contemporary art “Gallery TSE.”

Nominees will be commissioned to create new works on view in exhibition that will go on from February to May 2020 at the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv. The show of the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2020 will be curated by Alexandra Tryanova, junior curator, graduate Curatorial Platform of the PinchukArtCentre and co-curated by Bj?rn Geldhof, artistic director of the PinchukArtCentre.

The winners of the Prize will be announced at the award ceremony in March 2020. A distinguished international jury will award the Main Prize of UAH 250 000 and two Special Prizes of UAH 60 000 each. In addition, the winners will have an internship in studios of the world’s leading artists. A Public Choice winner will be determined by votes of the visitors attending the exhibition of the shortlisted artists and will be awarded UAH 25 000.

The winner of the Main Prize will be automatically included in the shortlist of the 
Future Generation Art Prize 2021 – an international art prize for young artists.
